This just might be my favorite show of the '70s now. I bought the commercial release for this and its Pacific NW companions, and Lordy, am I ever glad I did! Herewith are my favorite versions of Row Jimmy,
Big River, Ship of Fools, Must've Been the Roses, Sugaree, (2nd Set!!) and China Cat> Rider. And I've heard a ton of versions of all of these. The China-Rider here is what I recommend you play for anyone brand-new to the Dead and enthusiastic, or someone skeptical and unfamiliar. If they don't "get it" after hearing that, then they just don't have a very musical mind to start with. The Charlie Miller soundboard has the complete show, and is here:

/> This Sugaree is so fantastic I get delirious, and I'm not even that big a fan of the song. Check that- I guess I am now! It beats any I've ever heard from '77 or any other year. But I'm partial to the early-mid '70s to begin with, so that's just my personal take on it. Regardless, crank it up!

contrary to earlier review, this is above average AUD quality. and the dead regularly played tunes for years before they'd show up on an album, so ?.
interesting show for the quirkiness. wow did that original rhythm for Loose Lucy ever not work!

This is pure gold for the AUD collectors out there. I don't find the vocals to be muddy. Love that sound!

Muddy vocals all the way thru, but man, the band is rockin' this night!! This is obviously a way-overlooked show if I am writing the first review.
Promised is HOT, Ramble on Rose is great with Phil ridiculously missing those high harmony notes, there's a terrific, rare, fast version of Loose Lucy and a sweet Playing in the Band. I'm not much for the 20+ minute PITB versions from 73-74 but this one is exceptional. Garcia's tone starts out so sweet and ends like ringing a bell. And for those Donna haters out there, there's also a monstrously off-key screaming re-entrance at the PITB reprise (but Keith is great all the way thru). Plus, a terrific rockin' US Blues, too.
Weird how the crowd doesn't react very much to the new tunes - I looked it up and Mars Hotel wasn't released for another month in June 74, so I guess it shouldn't be surprising. This isn't a bad AUD at all. 3 stars for the sound, 5 for the show, so 4 overall......
